I had promised a pint to every BVHer who beat me to the finish of this race. And as I sat in the car looking out at the Malvern Hills.................................
Ooops. Sorry wrong day.
What a difference a couple of days make, i arrived in Blakedown to run my second off road 10k of the week in lovely sunshine, within 10minutes of arriving i had met about 15 ppl I knew including the race director Roz, so I very quickly relaxed into a nice easy feeling knowing I was not going to be racing this one, just jogging around and having some fun.
As the horn went for the start I watched as Marianne, Steve and Nicola all raced off and i just settled into a nice easy run determined not to have a repeat of the madness that took over on Wednesday.
After about a mile we came to the first stile, which was rather nice to be able to stop for a breather and survey the countryside and the rather over excited horse in the field below. Then came the sandy track and the uphill bits, i like uphill’s you have to work at it to make them appear easy this is something i do with a certain panache . Well in my head I look like Mo Farah, but in reality it’s more like ‘Mo Staypress’
There was some lovely running through the woods and then up and down some more hills all of which went far too quickly as I was really enjoying the run. It’s amazing what you think about as you run. I realised i have never ever run without putting my right shoe on first (if i put my left one on first the world would end), i run to the beat of the tune “do... you... know... the... way... to... san... hose”, I forgot to take the chicken out of the fridge this morning, if you run with your mouth open you swallow flies and if they succeed in over throwing the government in Iran, are they just choosing the ‘muller lite’?
I had chosen to wear my JW vest and was asked by a fellow runner who the “chap on the back was?” poor bloke did not realise he would spend the next 15 minutes being talked at by me about my favourite subject. And as we crossed the line I was still talking and he was still trying to get away.
Again a big well done to all involved in a great race and well done to the 3 BVHer’s who beat me to line
