An important part of out club is the volunteer work that we put in as coaches on a Thursday night. To do so we have to have enough qualified coaches to be able to run the sessions safely, both for new and existing members, especially around the roads of Birmingham. We try to operate to the guidelines of one coach to 15 athletes!!
To this end and also to protect the sanity of those coaching the sessions we deliberately operate a pool of coaches. The pool consists of Level 2 coaches and Level 1 coaches. The Levels represent the UK Athletics current coaching qualification with Level 1 being an Assistant Coach to a Leading Level 2.
You can see that with the current size of the club we need to have decent number of runners who are prepared to act as coaches across the different levels.
As we enter 2010 we are looking for new people to help coach, especially at Level 1.
People consider coaching for a number of reasons:
- 'giving something back to the club'
-'dipping a toe in to see if it's something they'd like'
- 'wanting to become a coach in the future'
-'i'd do things differently'
So if this sounds like you then I'd appreciate an e-mail and we will see what we can do to get a new crop of Level 1 coaches trained for 2010.
The next Level 1 courses are on the:
- 20th February - Coventry
- 13th March - Birmingham
Its a day long course. Costs £60 to which the club will pay £30.
Still interested..........drop me a line at:
