This is an event I have seen advertised over the last few years, but it has always clashed with other things. I was supposed to be doing a triathlon this weekend, so was not thinking about running events. On Friday I had an e-mail to say that the tri was postponed owing to Swine Flu (it was based at a school), so I was left with a weekend where I had expected to do an event and nothing planned - a quick surf of the net and I came up with the Darrens Dash.
I am so pleased I did - what a great event. It was a pretty hard climb for the first mile or so, but then a flattish run along Offa's Dyke before a magnificent downhill. The weather was perfect - last year it rained and the downhill would have been a bit iffy and the year before it was really warm - but this year was cool and dry.
I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who wants a relatively straightforward fell race. Teas and BBQ at the end, and fantastic locally produced ice cream. It was!
Based at the Longtown Outdoor Activity Centre in Herefordshire with great facilities.
